Floating market in Thailand

Food and Drink

From the fragrant spice markets of Istanbul to the sizzling street food stalls of Hong Kong, the quickest way to get under a country’s skin is through its food.

Food and drink holidays

Whether you feast on sun-warmed tomatoes in the farmers’ markets of Provence, meander through the corduroy-neat vineyards of Tuscany, or brave the unidentifiable dumplings in Hanoi, some of our best holiday memories leave an indelible mark on our tastebuds.

By choosing a dedicated food and wine tour, not only will you benefit from a local expert‘s extensive knowledge of a country’s cuisine, but you could unearth the best pintxos in San Sebastian, the finest filled parathas in Old Delhi, and discover off-the-beaten-track wineries in South Africa’s Western Cape.

Sampling local delicacies is a big part of travelling, and for many food will be the sole focus of a trip. The best food and drink holidays are led by local gastronomes and chefs, and cater for every taste and whim.

However, it’s worth remembering that some local delights are seasonal. Truffle aficionados should head for the Tuscan hills between July and September when the black truffles are in season, and again in November when the white truffles make an appearance. Lobster fans should flock to Maine between June and December when the crustaceans are at their best.

And the seasons makes a difference too. The bustling food markets of Bordeaux and Barcelona are not as fruitful in winter as they are during the spring and summer months, and wineries might not be as quite as welcoming during the busy harvest season (September and October in Europe, February to April in the southern hemisphere).
