Holidays to Brazil

In fact, as the biggest country in South America (not to mention the fifth largest in the world), there’s an abundance of things to see and do here: sip caipirinha cocktails, scale Sugarloaf Mountain, see Christ the Redeemer, or join in with the world-famous Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

Beyond the capital there are island getaways, jungle adventures and historic gems just waiting to be discovered – perfect for embracing your inner explorer. And let’s not forget, this is the place where you can see the other side of Iguazu Falls; you can even take a ‘flightseeing’ tour for a bird’s-eye view of these mighty cascades.

Where to go

For glitzy beach vibes and to discover the beating heart of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is the best place to start your adventure. Relax on the iconic Copacabana Beach, admire trendy Ipanema, and see the city up high from atop Sugarloaf Mountain. From here, Iguazu Falls is an easy day or two’s jaunt. Follow the trails and boardwalks on foot to see the cascades at their highest, take a boat ride to feel the full spray, or embark on a helicopter ride to appreciate the full scale of this Unesco-listed site.

For peace, quiet and enviable coral reefs, the volcanic archipelago of Fernando de Noronha beckons. You can spot sea turtles, dolphins, mantas and reef sharks when you snorkel or scuba here, all while soaking up the Brazilian sun.

When to go

Festival lovers should undoubtedly visit in February or March, when the flamboyant Rio Carnival is in full swing. For the best wildlife spotting, head for the Pantanal region during the dry season (May to October). Brazil is a year-round destination however, so no matter when you go, you won’t be disappointed.
