Welcome to a land of superlatives: biggest, tallest, priciest – the UAE certainly doesn’t do things by halves.

Holidays to the United Arab Emirates

But while its soaring skyscrapers and mega malls are certainly hard to miss, there’s so much more to the Emirates than first meets the eye.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are perfect for luxurious beach holidays and family holidays, and city trippers will delight in the burgeoning art and foodie scenes.

Don’t overlook the other Emirates, either. For example, little-visited Sharjah is stuffed with museums (covering everything from Islamic calligraphy to classic cars) – while Ras Al Khaimah’s mountains, hiking routes and whiteknuckle adventures (including the world’s longest zip line) showcase the UAE’s striking natural beauty.

Where to go

Chances are, you’ll fly straight into Abu Dhabi or Dubai – so fill a few days with the cities’ top sights. On Dubai city breaks, you’ll want to gawp at the Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest tower), splash some cash at Dubai Mall (the world’s biggest), and take a sunset cruise around the Palm.

Hit your city limits? With its spice souks, tea houses and Middle Eastern street food, Bur Dubai is the ultimate antithesis to the blingy centre.

No Abu Dhabi holiday is complete without a culturally‐enlightening (and aesthetically eye-popping) visit to Sheikh Zayed Mosque, followed by afternoon tea at Emirates Palace.

The racing circuit and theme parks on Yas Island deliver thrills and spills aplenty, while art lovers will fall for Louvre Abu Dhabi.

When to go

The UAE is ideal for winter sun holidays, with temperatures in the mid-‐ to high-‐twenties from October to March – and virtually no chance of rain. The season also brings international sport events too: Dubai Rugby 7s (November and December), horse racing’s Dubai World Cup (February), and golf’s DP World Tour Championship (November) and Omega Dubai Desert Classic (January).
