Where to go

Culture and ancient architecture are the big draws in Iran, both of which can be found in abundance in Esfahan, Persia’s formal capital. In fact, this vibrant city is full of magnificent mosques, souks and palaces, and is perhaps best known for its must-see blue tiling.

For outdoor adventures, head to the Alborz Mountains to the north, or the Zagros Mountains to the south. And, perhaps most importantly, Iran was a crucial stop along the mysterious Silk Road route – a key trading passage between the east and west.

When to go

Iran is best experienced during spring and autumn, when pleasant temperatures are perfectly balanced against fewer crowds. Visit from March to May, or September to early November. The weather can take a cold turn in the wintertime, and get scorching hot during the summer months.
