Holidays to Panama
Panama is overflowing with culture, wildlife and impressive scenery. Hike through the Soberania, Chagras or Metropolitan national parks; keep your eyes peeled for jaguar, sloths and howler monkeys; and learn all about the pre-Columbian heritage that inspired the country you see today.
Panama Canal cruise holidays are utterly spectacular, and connect travellers with many other incredible places along both coasts
Where to go
A visit to the Panama Canal is a must. At the Miraflores Locks Visitor Centre, you’ll learn all about how this magnificent feat of human engineering came to be, as well as the challenges it faced along the way.
Less than an hour from the canal is Panama City – a fusion of modernity and colonial-era landmarks, beloved for the Unesco World Heritage-listed Casco Viejo. Along Panama’s Caribbean coast, avid snorkellers and divers should head for the idyllic San Blas Islands – an archipelago made up of 365 islands and coral cays, home to dolphins, reef sharks and stingrays.
And to be in with a chance of spotting elusive jaguars, monkeys and tropical wildlife, don’t miss Soberania National Park, on the banks of the canal.
When to go
The best time to visit Panama is during the country’s summer (December to April), when rainfall is at its lowest. That said, if you’re not worried about the occasional downpour then this Central American hotspot is fantastic year-round. In fact, travelling outside of summer can mean better value and fewer crowds.
